Children are one of the things (if not THE thing) most precious to God.
As adults we have a VERY big task to look after, take care of, protect, and defend little ones. This is not always easy. In fact, it is never easy. To know that we have been entrusted with such a huge undertaking is an honor. To succeed in it is impossible -- apart from help from God himself.
"He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." (Isaiah 40:11)
God loves children so much that he keeps them closest to himself than anything.
"Allow the little children to come to Me, and do not hinder them, for to such [as these] belongs the kingdom of God." (Luke 18:16, Amplified)
May God forgive us for forgetting the way of mercy.
"Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and
become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you
can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all]." (Matt 18:3, Amplified)
